3 Paste / Reaction

It takes a delicate hand to manipulate small strips of wet paper; a process that oscillates between viscosity and dryness. A compound of gels and gesso triggers an immediate material rebellion. The paper reacts instantly to the moisture by buckling, coiling, and trapping pockets of air beneath the surface. Areas of the canvas that resist adhesion become shredded during the final phase. These are the scars of the process. Even after hours of work, ultimately, much of this process is out of control.
