2 Cuts / Context

An artist's smock carries the weight of a butcher's apron. My cuts are systematic interventions upon the surface of media. A guillotine severs the spines of magazines, and I render stock art, fashion spreads, and corporate branding into a mixture of paper strips. It is an act of decontextualization that separates image from meaning. By emulsifying logos and photography into abstract visual fragments, my cut disrupts, but does not eliminate, the cognitive powers of these contemporary hieroglyphs. The cut is a visceral interrogation of media culture.
